What size portable stage do I need?
The right portable stage size depends primarily on how many people and how much equipment need to be on the stage at one time, as well as the type of event.
Smaller stages such as 8' × 8' and 12' × 8' can work well for speakers, presentations and smaller performances. Larger configurations such as 16' × 12', 16' × 16' and 20' × 12' provide more room for bands, school performances, ceremonies and larger groups.
Because modular staging can be expanded, organizations can also start with the stage size they need today and add platforms as their needs change.
What height should a portable stage be?
Portable stage height depends on audience sightlines, room size, type of event and access requirements.
Lower stages are often suitable for smaller rooms and presentations, while taller stages can improve visibility for larger audiences. LimeLight Lite Series stages are available in 8", 16", 24" and 32" heights.

Portable Stage Setup
How long does it take to set up a portable stage?
Setup time varies considerably by staging system.
LimeLight Lite Series stages are designed for approximately one minute of assembly per 4' × 4' stage panel using one to two people. This includes connecting the expandable riser base to the platform and connecting that completed panel to the adjoining stage.
How many people does it take to set up a portable stage?
This depends on the weight and design of the staging system.
Lightweight, intuitive modular systems can reduce the need for experienced stage crews. LimeLight Lite Series stages are designed so that one to two people can assemble each stage panel, allowing teachers, volunteers, event teams and other users to set up staging without requiring professional stagehands for routine assembly.
Do portable stages require tools for assembly?
Some portable staging systems require tools or separate hardware, while others use integrated connections.
LimeLight Lite Series stages use SecureLock Technology to connect the platform to the expandable X riser base and HexConnectors to join adjacent stage panels. SecureLock does not require tools or hex keys to make the platform-to-riser connection.

How much does a portable stage platform weigh?
Platform weight varies considerably by construction and design.
A LimeLight Lite Series 4' × 4' stage platform weighs approximately 37 pounds and is designed to make carrying, transportation, setup and storage easier.
How much weight can a portable stage hold?
Always use the manufacturer's published load rating for the specific staging system.
LimeLight Lite Series platforms and risers are rated for a 135 lb. per square foot uniform distributed load. A 4' × 4' platform and riser combination can therefore support more than 2,000 pounds when the load is properly distributed.
Portable Stage Safety
When should a portable stage have guardrails?
Guardrail requirements can depend on stage height, configuration, application and applicable local requirements.
As a LimeLight safety recommendation, we recommend using guardrails on portable stages 24 inches high and higher. Guardrails may also be appropriate at lower heights depending on how the stage will be used and who will be using it.
Always consider applicable local codes and requirements for your facility and application.
Do portable stage guardrails require holes in the stage?
Not all portable stage guardrail systems attach the same way.
LimeLight Lite Series guardrails use a No-Drill Guardrail Design, allowing guardrails to be added without drilling permanent guardrail holes into individual stage platforms.
This also provides more flexibility when configuring a modular stage because users do not have to determine in advance which platforms have guardrail mounting holes and where those platforms need to be positioned.
Do portable stages need stairs?
Stage access should be considered whenever users need to safely enter or exit an elevated platform.
The appropriate solution depends on stage height and application. Portable stage steps or stairs with handrails can provide safer and more convenient stage access, particularly as stage height increases.

Purpose-built stage carts can keep components organized and allow multiple platforms and risers to be moved together between the storage area and event space.
How much storage space does a portable stage need?
Storage requirements depend on the number and size of platforms, the riser design and the accessories included with the stage.
Folding and nesting components can significantly reduce the amount of storage space required. Before purchasing a stage, also consider door widths, hallways, elevators and the route between the storage location and the area where the stage will be used.
